Workshop Description
As advanced computational workflows, algorithmic design, and AI-assisted tools become deeply embedded in architectural practice, a critical gap has emerged between complex digital modeling and human-centric spatial experiences. Traditional, static visualization pipelines often fail to convey the dynamic, embodied, and culturally situated nature of modern architectural intervention.
This workshop is motivated by the urgent need to humanize our digital representations. It challenges the conventional boundary between the “creator” and the “observer” by transitioning from passive, static renderings to participatory, real-time 3D environments. By integrating generative AI, interactive state-switching, and immersive VR delivery within a continuous visual loop, we empower designers to communicate complex socio-technical and ecological narratives with empathy, precision, and a renewed focus on human agency.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the integration of algorithmic modeling with real-time immersive environments (LiveSync & D5 Lite).
- Explore AI as a creative collaborator using D5’s AI features to quickly interpret and iterate on cultural narratives.
- Transition away from static rendering outputs toward an Interactive Presentation sandbox and Stereoscopic VR environments. By binding custom 3D triggers to multi-state environmental, material, or seasonal variables, design delivery is recoded as a living, participatory space.
- Exclusive Insight: Gain a conceptual preview of “Arco”—D5’s upcoming next-generation core rendering architecture, focusing on the future of efficient, human-centric computational workflows (demonstration only).
Workshop Outcomes Participants will build a fully interactive, multi-state digital environment. They will leave with a robust understanding of how to implement AI-assisted visualization and real-time synchronization in their own design practices.

Seamless Synthesis — Real-Time Computation inside the Model Space ○ Deploy D5 Lite within Rhino/ Revit/ SketchUp to achieve zero-context-switching visual loops. Participants will learn to model and receive physical lighting and material feedback instantaneously inside their native viewports. ○ One-way data synchronization techniques that push geometry, materials, lights, proxies, and settings seamlessly from the design model to advanced rendering environments without re-exporting.

AI-Assisted Cultural Storytelling & Tactile Materiality ○ Use AI Atmosphere Match to extract lighting, fog, and color temperatures from cultural reference images or historical photography, instantly mapping cinematic environments. ○ Leverage AI PBR Material Generation and AI Material Snap to generate accurate normal, roughness, and height maps from single base-color images. ○ Implement HeightField Tracing algorithms to give physical, responsive relief to textures without ballooning polygon budgets, whilst maintaining cinematic gamut integrity via the ACEScg pipeline under high-dynamic environmental stress.

Ecological Narratives & Generative Populating ○ Employ AI Agent alongside D5 Scatter/Brush tools to intelligently suggest and populate site-specific vegetation and inclusive human characters, cutting down manual setup. ○ Harness Seasonal Vegetation tools to program temporal fluidity. Participants will simulate vegetative adaptations (spring bloom to winter dormancy) to address climate narratives natively.

Recoding Presentation as a Participatory Sandbox ○ Utilize Interactive Presentation mode to construct non-linear 3D slide structures. Crafting multi-option logic blocks within a single real-time project file. ○ Create interactive variable sets (material variants, lighting states) and bind them to 3D Triggers that viewers can toggle directly inside the scene. ○ Utilize Custom Pivot adjustment layers to reposition asset transform axes (e.g., door hinges) to demonstrate participatory, moving architecture during live walkthroughs.

Immersive Broadcast & Post-Processing ○ Configure Stereoscopic Panoramas with precise IPD metrics. Deploy local area network (LAN) Pixel Streaming to broadcast live interactive scenes straight to non-rendering participant devices via web browsers. ○ Utilize the AI Enhancer to refine global lighting and details, and AI Style Transfer to quickly output watercolor, sketch, or illustrative diagrams. ○ The Next Paradigm (Seminar): A conceptual discussion on The Arco Framework—D5’s highly-anticipated future rendering architecture, outlining the next evolutionary step in algorithmic rendering and human-machine collaboration.

Participant Information
- Audience: Digital designers, researchers, computational architects, spatial storytellers, and students of all skill levels who are interested in the intersection of generative workflow, immersive tech, and humanistic architectural presentation.
- Skill Level: Intermediate. Prior knowledge of Rhino is helpful but not required
- Group Size: ~30 participants
- Hardware: A Windows PC equipped with a dedicated DXR-compatible GPU (NVIDIA GeForce RTX series, AMD Radeon RX 6000 series or above). VR Headset (e.g., Quest, PICO) is optional but recommended.
